Rising of Sisters’ Islands is an interactive light installation presented at Singapore Night Festival 2026 at Funan SG.

Inspired by the legend of Minah and Linah, the two sisters associated with Singapore’s Sisters’ Islands, the experience invites visitors to call out their names from two coral-adorned island sculptures. When both voices are detected, the installation comes to life in synchrony with Funan’s Kinetic Wall—reimagining the moment the islands are said to have risen from the sea.

Beyond retelling the folktale, the work explores how stories are kept alive through voice, repetition and collective memory. Its coral forms also reference the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park today, connecting Singapore’s mythology with the marine landscape and biodiversity of the Southern Islands.
